How to use a sketch to boost your creativity.
Hello & welcome to my blog. I hope you are all well.
My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator.
I love to create beautiful things to share with people that I love but I also sell me creations. I have been creating things in one way or another for most of my life - knitting, sewing, cooking, card making, gardening, scrap booking & hand made gifts & in 2020 after joining Stampin' Up® I decided to share my passion in a blog (craftedbyalison@blogspot.com).
In 2025 I retired & decided to spread my creative wings a little more by combining my blog, products that I had been selling on FaceBook & launching a newsletter. Some of these things I had already been doing but this time they are all in the one place. (All previous posts can be found at my blogspot address above if you would to read any of them.)
And here we are at my new site!
One of the ways I like to push my creativity is to use card sketches. Every few months I use a sketch, either from a Stampin' Up® catalogue or one I've made myself. This post uses my 16th creation. fFirst of all, here's the final card...

This was created with the following sketch design...

Now let's look at how this card came together.
I chose the lovely Fern & Flora stamps & dies as the starting point then chose the cardstock & DSP in natural, earthy tones.
The base is Early Espresso & has a cream Natural Hues textured paper matte. The rectangles were made with Pecan Pie & Nature Walk DSP.
The centre circle is diecut with the Stylish Shapes dies in Early Espresso with a smaller Very Vanilla circle for the sentiment. It is from the about to be released (July) online stamp set, Framed Violets, stamped in Early Espresso with some Early Espresso ink splatters & a fern from Fern & Flora in Peaceful Pine.
Behind the sentiment are layers of foliage created with Berry Botanical vellum, Nature Walk DSP & Soft Sea Foam with some Peaceful Pine blended on the Soft Sea Foam fronds. Some are adhered directly to the card, some behind the Early Espresso circle & 1 tucked in behind the sentiment.
Behind the foliage there is also a swirl of some twine from my stash.
Once I was happy with the placement of them all I raised it on dimensionals.

As a final step I also stamped a fern & spattered some Early Espresso.

This sketch is a great, versatile design & very easy to create with. I hope you enjoyed it & maybe will give it a try yourself.
That's it for this week. My next post will be on Sunday & features a CASE'd card from the catalogue.
The next mid week post will be all about using colour in your creations.
I hope you can join me for both of them.
I have included some links to some of the products used in this card in case you would like to purchase any of them.
Til next time, take care & keep creating.
