Check out this fun way to use DSP as a focal point

Hello & welcome to my blog. I hope you are all well.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator.

I love to create beautiful things to share with people that I love but I also sell me creations. I have been creating things in one way or another for most of my life - knitting, sewing, cooking, card making, gardening, scrap booking & hand made gifts & in 2020 after joining Stampin' Up® I decided to share my passion in a blog (craftedbyalison@blogspot.com).

In 2025 I retired & decided to spread my creative wings a little more by combining my blog, products that I had been selling on FaceBook & launching a newsletter. Some of these things I had already been doing but this time they are all in the one place. (All previous posts can be found at my blogspot address above if you would to read any of them.)

And here we are at my new site!

This week I have a unique funfold that uses DSP in a different way. I'm not 100% sure what the actual name for this fold is but I'm calling it a DSP fold & flip card.

Now, this might look like a basic card. Perfect for a retirement or someone who's moving onto something new. But, when you open the card there's a surprise.

Let's take a step back though & work through how this card came together.

The card is a smaller size that my usual cards, measuring 10cm x 20cm folded.

It uses Misty Moonlight & Gray Granite along with the beautiful Waterside Retreat DSP.

Using Gray Granite as a matte I cut two pieces of 9.5cm x 9.5cm & embossed them with the Lovely Stripes embossing folder. These were added to the front & the inside.

Over the front piece I added a piece of DSP & added two fussy cut fish from the DSP.

I chose to use two different stamp sets for the sentiments & tag image - Bordered in Beauty & Relaxing Waterside & the co-ordinating dies. The thread on the tag is the very versatile Linen Thread.

So that was the front finished.

On the inside I created a relaxing image by blending some Basic Beige & Misty Moonlight as backgrounds then stamped some grasses in Old Olive.

The main focus of the image is a relaxing deck chair which was stamped in Gray Granite & coloured in with a Light Crumb Cake blend.

Now for the DSP element.

Using a different pattern from the Waterside Retreat I cut a 15cm x 15cm piece & scored it in the centre then turned it & scored to the centre but cut from the centre down. I glued it to the base & this was to form the centre of the inside as in the photo above.

Here are some photos of the DSP unfolding...

As you can see, there are Basic White squares on two of the panels - one blank for writing your message & one with a stamped & blended image but with a few seagulls stamped in Basic Gray, Gray Granite & hand drawn with a (retired) Pebbled Path blend.

I loved creating this funfold, it's so easy but has a definite WOW factor.

So that's it for this card.

My next post is on Sunday & will feature some of Stampin' Up®s beautiful DSP.

The next mid week post is a technique post & I will share how to create a Faux tile effect. I hope you can join me for both of them. Below you will find a few links to products that I used this week if you'd like to purchase any of them as well as some craft room essentials.

Til next time, take care & keep creating. XX Alison.
