Learn how a simple baby wipe & re-inkers can create stunning & unique colour creations.

My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator.

I love to create beautiful things to share with people that I love but I also sell me creations. I have been creating things in one way or another for most of my life - knitting, sewing, cooking, card making, gardening, scrap booking & hand made gifts & in 2020 after joining Stampin' Up® I decided to share my passion in a blog (craftedbyalison@blogspot.com).

In 2025 I retired & decided to spread my creative wings a little more by combining my blog, products that I had been selling on FaceBook & launching a newsletter. In today's post I look at an easy technique that creates unique colour combinations that can be used for backgrounds or for stamping.

Today I will walk you through a simple technique that creates a gorgeous result using baby wipes & re-inkers. How it works is that the moisture in the baby wipe reacts with the ink to spread the colours. When you press your stamp onto the wipes the ink transfers & can be used just like you would if you were using a stamp pad. I have used this technique on my old blog before (see 2/11/22 post here) where I used stamps but this time I am creating backgrounds as the focal point for my cards. I was inspired by a post on Youtube by Lisa Cursio where she used a bundle of wipes on glossy paper & swiped the colour across the paper to create a gorgeous background. I hope you enjoy learning this technique.

I created 2 cards...

To start, assemble your supplies:

Of course, firstly you need a pack of baby wipes.
Re-inkers ( used 4 of the 6 pictured)
Glossy paper (not photo paper)
Stamps
A plastic lid, tub or plastic plate
Surface protection (scrap paper)

Using 4 folded baby wipes I stood them upright & dropped ink from Peaceful Pine, Golden Glow, Garden Green & (retired) Parakeet Party across the spine of the wipes.

For the first base I swiped down with the cardstock in portrait orientation.

The second base has a swirled effect (& is my favourite). Once you're happy with the result, set aside the paper to dry or carefully hold the edges & use the low setting of your heat tool.

With the bases complete it was then time to create some decoration & add a sentiment.

For the swirly base I kept it simple with a double matte of Granny Apple Green & Garden Green to go behind a piece of watercolour paper on which I had stamped a large fern from the baby wipe 'ink pad'. The result when stamping is that you have a variagated image. Really pretty. The sentiment from Match Day was stamped in Garden Green then double stamped with Versamark & heat embossed with clear powder to add a little oomph to the colour.

Before adding it to the base with dimensionals I wrapped some twine twice around it & tied a small knot. The final touch were some Dewdrops embellishments.

I like to decorate the inside of my cards & also the envelope. Here is the inside of the card...

The colours of the stripes on the second card lend themselves to foliage & fernery so I diecut ferns from Garden Green, Old Olive & Vellum. These were layered on the base, behind the sentiment & on the sentiment. The sentiment itself is from Lily of the Valley & is stamped in Peaceful Pine on Very Vanilla. It was diecut with one of the smallest arches from Everyday Arches & backed with a slightly larger Peaceful Pine matte. This has a larger vellum matte behind it & is added with dimensionals.

The final step was adding some Antique Pearls.

And the inside was decorated of course...
