Learn how to use scoring to create a unique focus in your creations. Plus, sneak peak look at upcoming products from the new catalogue.
Hello & welcome to my mid week blog.
My name is Alison & I live in beautiful Melbourne, Australia & I am an independent Stampin' Up® demonstrator.
I love to create beautiful things to share with people that I love but I also sell me creations. I have been creating things in one way or another for most of my life - knitting, sewing, cooking, card making, gardening, scrap booking & hand made gifts & in 2020 after joining Stampin' Up® I decided to share my passion in a blog (craftedbyalison@blogspot.com).
In 2025 I retired & decided to spread my creative wings a little more by combining my blog, products that I had been selling on FaceBook & launching a newsletter. Some of these things I had already been doing but this time they are all in the one place. (All previous posts can be found at my blogspot address above if you would to read any of them.)
And here we are at my new site!
As this post goes to air I am in Echuca with my husband and friends as he is participating in a bowls tournament with other bowlers. If you are a regular follower, you will know that these past few weeks & months have been quite busy & I have used the convenience of scheduling to create this post (& some others) ahead of time but delay publishing until a date/time that I wanted.
Technology can be a wonderful tool!!
My mid week posts look at techniques, tools & tips, colouring ideas & techniques, sketches & funfolds. This week I am sharing a way to use scoring as a unique focal point in a card along with a sneak peak at some of the new products coming up in the May - August 2026 catalogue. As a Stampin' Up® demonstrator I am able to purchase products from the up coming catalogue ahead of time so that I can create projects & share them with you. This means you get to see how lovely the products are without having to purchase them until you have had a chance to have a good look at the catalogue as well as my advance creations. But hopefully it will also inspire you with your own creations. I hope you enjoy it.
Here are two cards I created using a square die & a circle die with floral details around the score lines.

This different way of using detail on my card was inspired from a post I saw on Kathy's Stamping World on FaceBook. She shared this tip & I decided to have a play around with it myself. I created a 15cm square card as well as a regular portrait style card. I'll start with the square card first.

To create this look you will need a score board & stylus, using the smaller head of the stylus works best.
I used a 14cm Basic White matte & placed a square die from Stylish Shapes roughly in the centre of the cardstock.

I turned the die on an angle to create more of a diamond shape & starting at the top of the diamond I scored along each line within the shape going all the way to the right of the shape then repeated that step from the centre all the way to the left.
Now I needed some pretty flowers to decorate the shape so I adhered a strip of the Extraordinary Flora Washi Tape to some vellum & diecut out a whole bunch of flowers then arranged them around the edge of the design until I was happy with the placement.
Next I stamped a sentiment from a brand new stamp set called Phrases & Frames in Gorgeous Grape.
To give the design a slightly 3D effect I used glue dots & diemensionals to create a variety of heights.
This matte was adhered to a 14.5cm square of Shy Shamrock & then to a 15cm square card base.
A little bit of bling from the upcoming Sunset Sparkle Sequins finishes the card nicely.

The portrait card is next.

It features a circle design & it was created the same way as the diamond shape.

This time though, I wanted to highlight the scored area so I chose the two largest circles from the Stylish Shapes dies & diecut a frame from Blackberry Bliss cardstock to add around the scoring.
I chose Blackberry Bliss (not just because it is a beautiful, rich colour) because it was in the Cute as a Bug DSP that I had chosen to fussy cut images from.
I used the same principal of glue dots & dimensionals to add the berries & leaves with the 3D element then stamped a sentiment in Gorgeous Grape, again from the Phrases & Frames stamp set.
This was backed with a Blackberry Bliss matte & added to the Basic White base.
Some of the lovely Sunset Sparkle Sequins & the second card was complete!

I'm so glad I saw Kathy's post as it allowed me to explore a new way of using scoring as an element on my cards & I love how these cards turned out. I hope you enjoyed this technique & maybe you might decide to try it yourself?
That's all I have for you for this post. My next post will be on Sunday where I feature some super cute cards made with the adorable Cute As A Bug DSP.
My next mid week blog features a card sketch provided by Stampin' Up® from their catalogue.
